A non-profit organization is governed by the by-laws adopted and amended by the general membership as well as any parliamentary procedure rules (for the Southampton Neighborhood Association this is Robert's Rules of Order). In addition the statutes of the State of Missouri that apply to non-profit organizations must be followed. In terms of federal taxation, the Southampton Neighborhood Association is not a 501(c)3 non-profit and this means that membership dues, donations, and sponsorships are not tax-deductible on federal taxes. Check out the current version of the Association by-laws. In order to steer our all-volunteer organization as we fulfill our mission, our Board began developing policies to serve as a guide for our volunteer leadership team, our members, and our Southampton neighbors. The first policy was developed and approved by the members in 2017 and was the Safety Plan. This plan defined the responsibilities of the Safety Chair and the functions of the Safety Committee. Major policy additions were made in 2021 with the adoption of a Financial Policy and the definitions for other Standing Committees that are not specified in our by-laws. Current Policies for SNA |
